New Media My New Love
My Experience in the New Media Class.
Taking the Introduction to New Media class this semester has been one of the most impactful parts of my semester. Even though the class is being held online, it was always engaging and easy to follow. A big reason for this was our lecturer, Madam Efua Dentaa. She is honestly one of the best lecturers I have personally encountered at UniMAC-IFT. Her teaching style, patience, and the way she breaks things down until everyone understands made learning very enjoyable.I truly appreciate her teaching style and so far here are three things I have learnt and how it has impacted my life.
Firstly, Advantages of New Media: New Media has make communication and learning easier. It is very affordable, allowing us to advertise, share ideas, and connect with others at a low cost. It also gives access to a large global audience with just a click, making it possible for our messages to reach people instantly across the world. New Media is also flexible, letting us engage with information anytime and at our own pace. Overall, it has opened up new opportunities for communication, research, and learning in a fast and convenient way.
Secondly,Disadvantages of New Media: New Media also has several disadvantages. Some people use it for trolling and bullying, which creates a negative online environment. The constant use of shorthand can affect spelling in academic work. Users are also exposed to inappropriate or obscene content. In addition, because content is easy to copy and share, it can reduce creativity, as some people no longer feel the need to create their own work. Finally, New Media can reduce face-to-face interaction, since many people prefer to stay behind the anonymity of the screen instead of engaging in real-life conversations.
Lastly, This semester in our New Media class, I learnt a lot about the key characteristics that shape today’s digital world. One of the major things I understood was immediacy, which allows information to be shared instantly. I also learnt about visual communication, where images and graphics are used to capture attention and make messages clearer. Another important feature is the universal nature of new media, which connects people across the world without any geographical limits.and multimedia, which combines videos, sound, music, and text to create richer and more engaging content. As a student journalist, understanding these features will help me tell better stories, reach more people, and stay relevant in the fast-changing media environment.
The difference the above have made to my perception and use of New Media as student journalist I have learnt a lot about the key characteristics that shape today’s digital world, and this has changed how I see and use New Media as a student journalist. I now understand its advantages, like being fast, cheap, flexible, reaching a wide audience, and making research easier. I also see its disadvantages, such as trolling, exposure to inappropriate content, reduced face-to-face interaction, and less creativity. Knowing both the pros and cons has informed me to use New Media more wisely and tell better, more engaging and impactful stories.
In Conclusion the Introduction to New Media class has shaped how I understand the digital space. Thanks to Madam Efua Dentaa’s patience and excellent teaching, I now feel more confident navigating New Media. The things I have learned especially immediacy, visual communication, hypertext, and multimedia will continue to guide me as I grow in my journalism career.
